It only affects those that download it so they can see the updated models, animations, spells, all of it. Let Blizzard give the files of the updated graphics overhaul to those that want it. Retail has the current models and everything and its working fine. I have seen private servers with the new models. Some have even offered a toggle for those that want it, but the limitations of the code.
